How Many LED Downlights Do I Need?

Creating a pivotal point in a space can be simply achieved by installing a solitary downlight however more LED downlights are required if a wider spectrum of illumination is to be achieved. The question in the heads of many is how many exactly would be required?

Size

There is unfortunately no simple response to this inquiry since there are various spaces that have varying requirements as well. These requisites can depend of the dimension of the area that needs to be set up. For instance if the room in question is the kitchen, it is logical that more lighting is necessary in the food preparation area compared to setting up lighting in a den or perhaps a sitting room which has a more relaxing feel to it. Also one must take into account the personal preferences of the homeowner or occupant of the space.

Structure

A lattice like framework and uniformity is a common setup for LED downlights to be used as ambient lighting. The idea is to simply conform to the overall shape of the space it needs to be installed in. creating a system of evenly distributed LED lights are a quick trick to avoid the occurrence of shadows.

However it is best that before you start any installation, analyzing properly where ceiling joists are should be your top priority. Once this has been ascertained, determining where to position your fittings can now commence.

Proper Distance

A space of eighty centimeters from the wall needs to be measured. It is integral to maintain this set margin in order to reduce the chances of light creating what is called a "washing" effect once they hit any walls. This measure however is not fixed as it may need to be altered depending on the existence of furnishings in the space. Put into consideration objects and wall hangings such as kitchen cupboards that can block the light you wish to install. Remember the idea is to have little to now shadowing issues.

Additionally the gap between every downlight is dependent on the measure of each fitting. For example, if the fitting has a four inch diameter it should follow that the spacing must be about four feet apart in all directions. Similarly fixtures that fall in a five inch diameter measure should be five feet away from each other, etc.

Any decrease of measure between any fixtures will result to lights flooding the space, thus having a good measure of space in between will help give a softer effect. Small LED downlights tend to get offset and suffer from reduced luminosity if they are setup too close to each other or are used abundantly in the area.

Additional Features

One good substitute is to mount a dimmer control panel. This allows for the brightness in the room to be varied as you wish. It is best to note that an installation of dimmable fittings will necessitate a need to upgrade to what is called a Low Load Trailing Edge Dimmer Switch in order for it to work properly. It is always best to determine first which spots in the room you intend to call attention to. It then follows to arrange your fixtures accordingly.

All We Ever Need to Know About LED Downlights

Conventional lighting is fast being swopped out for LED options. One of the main reasons for this move is the huge reduction in electricity bills we can experience by switching to LED. Even if we're not using solar panels to power up, LED cuts our electricity usage by around 80%. As well as being highly energy efficient, LED downlights are the most eco-friendly and clean way to light up our lives and living spaces.

Ecologically Friendly

As we begin to do more to protect our earth's natural resources, one of the simplest ways to participate in becoming more eco-friendly is to change our lighting to LED. Since LEDs last as much as 20 times longer than other lighting options, LED downlights don't need replacing as often. Within the wider framework of manufacturing, packaging and shipping processes, the impact on our environment is greatly reduced. LED are also free of toxic materials and recyclable.

Long Life

One of the top reasons why LED downlights are the better choice is the long life of LED. Since this type of lighting doesn't burn out or stop working in the same manner that conventional lighting does, LED can be left on for extended hours and will still operate consistently for years. When left on for extended periods, the diodes naturally emit less light, creating further energy savings.

Durable Design

Well designed LED downlights are extremely durable. Manufactured using materials that can withstand vibration, shocks and external impacts, LEDs are widely used indoors as well as in rougher outdoor settings where heavy weather conditions like rain, wind, snow or sleet are found. This type of lighting is well safeguarded against external interference like vandalism and is useful in traffic control situations and public areas, walkways, and large buildings.

LED Downlights and Dimmers

While changing out your conventional lighting for LED downlights, it is possible to change dimmer switches to LED compatible dimmers. It's important to make this change because the load is far less with LED than with conventional lighting, being around 30W compared to 240W.

Low Ultra Violet Emission

Another major difference between conventional lighting and LED downlights is the fact that LED illuminates without producing high infrared light or UV emissions. This makes LED a superior choice for lighting used to highlight sensitive materials or objects. Products that may be affected by too much heat will thrive under LED. Historic artifacts are safer in galleries where LED is used.

Premium Quality LED downlights

In replacing our conventional light fittings with LED downlights, it is worthwhile seeking out the best quality fittings and LED we can find. This represents higher savings in the longer term as the LEDs will last for several years without losing strength and the premium quality ones offer amazing design flexibility. Of the companies at the leading edge of LED manufacture who specialize in breakthrough LED design.

Save Money by Installing Cree LR6 LED Downlights

Most people don't spend a lot of time thinking about lighting and its associated energy costs in their homes or businesses, but that would change quickly if they knew the benefits and savings provided by energy efficient lighting found on the market today. Enter the LED downlight, one of the best LED lighting solutions available and a prime example of how LED lighting is going to revolutionize the lighting industry. While not all current LED replacement bulbs live up to their claims, products like the Cree LR6 Downlight provide you with beautiful warm white light, an 85% energy savings over conventional incandescent bulbs and a 50,000 hour life span. That means it won't need replacing for the next 20 years or more if ran for approximately 6-8 hours a day. The main question most people find themselves asking regarding LED downlights is, "Do the benefits justify the high cost?" The answer is a definite yes.

Let's look at the cost savings of using an LED downlights such as the Cree LR6 more closely. Most conventional downlights use a standard 65-watt incandescent bulb and are run on a switch that typically contains several downlights. For this example we'll say there are a total of six lights on a switch. On average, the cost to light just one 65-watt incandescent bulb for 50,000 hours is $325, so you find that six of them would cost $1,950 to operate over that time. Another factor we have to consider is the rated life of an incandescent bulb, which is typically 750-1000 hours. Assuming each bulb lasts the full 1,000 hours, we'll need to buy 50 bulbs per fixture to get 50,000 hours of total run time. Multiply that by 6 fixtures and we'll be buying 300 bulbs! If the cost per bulb averages $2 we'll end up paying an additional $600 for a grand total of $2,550 to run six incandescent lights.

Now, what does the Cree LR6 cost to operate under similar circumstances? Amazingly, it runs on just 12 watts of power and uses 85% less energy than a 65-watt incandescent bulb. The energy cost to light one LR6 for 50,000 hours is only $60 on average. If we have six downlights then our total energy cost equals a paltry $360, with the added bonus of never needing to replace them. Currently the LR6 sells for around $90, so we'll spend about $540 to install them (they can be installed as a direct replacement to standard downlights, no special tools needed) and our total cost will be $900 over the 50,000 hour period. That's a huge savings of $1,650 over using 65-watt incandescent bulbs!

In case you're wondering how a LED downlight compares to a compact fluorescent bulb (CFL), the LED downlight is up to 50% more energy efficient than a CFL, and also doesn't contain mercury, a toxic material that requires special disposal and cleanup if a CFL bulb should break. One last benefit of LED downlights is they produce a much smaller amount of heat than traditional bulbs and will therefore help to reduce costs associated with air conditioning.

The only question left to ask is, "Where do I purchase LED downlights?" Online companies such as Polar-Ray specialize in LED lighting solutions and can help you find what you need for your home or business. Online general lighting stores may stock LED lights but may not have the expertise or customer service to make sure you get exactly what you need. Currently it is even harder to find LED downlights at local retail stores and, when you do find them, the costs are usually higher than what you'll find online. Hopefully I've laid out a clear path to understanding the cost and environmental benefits of using LED lighting solutions like the Cree LR6 Downlight. The initial cost of purchasing this and similar products is insignificant when put into perspective, and the benefits to your pocketbook and the environment will be clearly seen and felt.

LED Downlights Installation Guidelines

LED downlights are often as easy to install as any normal incandescent light bulb. Most applications involve plugging them into a socket that runs off your mains Alternating Current (AC 110-230V) and because good quality LED lights have their own built-in transformers, it's a plug and play, DIY situation that can be easily and quickly achieved without the need for transformers on every downlight - which is often the irritating case when running halogens. However, it is vitally important to note that there are a few scenarios that require a bit more tinkering in order that your LED Downlights work at an optimal level and don't get damaged in the process.

Two critical considerations to take into account when installing your LED lights is whether your downlights will be running off a Direct Current (DC 12V) installation and / or whether you are using a dimmable option. In both cases, it is vitally important to ensure that you have the correct hardware setup so that your LED Downlights can shine their best and for the duration of their exceptionally long operational lives.

Firstly, if you are looking to run your downlights off a 12V DC system, you'll need to purchase MR16 (socket type) downlights and have the right transformer installed. The Magnetic Transformer is the most commonly used power modulating device for most homes and businesses, and is the transformer type required to optimally run your LED lights. They are also very cheap and you can source them at any electrical shop. If you've got one, then great - again it's an easy plug and play. However, LED Downlights will NOT run off an Electronic Transformer (or better known in the technical world as "Switch Mode Power Supply"). So - best bet is to get your friendly neighbourhood sparky (electrician) to come in and have a look-see as s/he will be able to identify, source and replace that transformer if required.

It's worth mentioning that you should not run a mix of different lighting technologies on the same 12V circuit as you may experience a drop in illumination of your LED Downlights or they may not turn on at all. With a 12V system it is either all LEDs or all Halogens.

Secondly, if you want to be able to dim your led lights, then you'll need to purchase a dimmable LED Downlight option and have the right dimmer switch installed. A Bell-Push Dimmer Switch is the optimum device used for controlling the increase or decrease of voltage to your dimmable LED Downlights and should be made available to you by your LED Lighting supplier when you make your purchase. LED lights will NOT run well (or at all in some cases) off the old styled Push-Button dimmer switches. Again, like the Magnetic Transformer, a Bell-Push Dimmer switch is both essential and relatively inexpensive to buy.

So, if you require a 12V LED Downlight or a dimmable option (either on AC or DC currents) you'll need to ensure you have a Magnetic Transformer in place or a Bell Push Dimmer Switch installed respectively. This will ensure that your LED lights operate at a 100% efficiency and live out their exceptionally long lives without any hassles. Be sure to follow the LED Downlights Installation guidelines as provided by your LED Lighting supplier and use a trained electrician were necessary to complete the installation safely and right the first time around.

Student Storage: Class 101

Ah the college days where you live with the basic things in life and sharing is literally caring for all of us. When you move out of your house to study in a new state, new city or even new country, there is an instant culture shock. There are no parents helping you out, a full course meal is just a notion and you will need to take 6 am cold baths to make it for your lecture. There's more! You are pushed into small dorm rooms where you will share space with another student.

It is a fact that there's almost no way that everything a college student wants or needs to have will fit in their tiny room. That's why the know-how of utilising your space is essential. Check out a few tricks and tips for how to store some of your most important stuff.

Storage for you

Proximity is the name of the game. Yes, finding the right storage facility is very important. The shortest journey from your dorm to the facility is ideal. The right storage facility will also offer the storage size that you need for the right price. Please remember to do your research thoroughly; sit with your options and pick the right one before you make your decision.

Pack attack

Work smarter not harder. So with that mantra remember to "pack smart." Make sure that when you pack, you pack in a very orderly manner so you find it easy to move stuff around. Some tips include packing books i.e. (study material, stationery et al) in smaller boxes; your heavy clothes (like jackets, blankets and bedspreads will go into another set of boxes; you could also double up fragile items wrap in clothes) to prevent chips.

Rotation wise

Do not take rented space for granted or rather do not be abusive to empty space. Adopt a rotation policy when storing goods. Let us expand on that point. Store wisely. Because you know you've space for fill all your excess goods, you'll be amazed how quickly a storage space will fill up. Remember to pack your boxes along the wall, creating a path for you to safely and freely move about. You can get in and get out in no time.

Security

Before you choose your storage facility, it is best if you can do a quick tour of the facility. This step is very important. You are placing your precious goods into someone else's hands. You have the right to check the security options at the facility. Make sure you pick a facility that protects your belongings.

Label loving

Go label crazy with every box packed by you. This will help you and the storage facility workers to help you quickly remove the boxes and save on time. That's why we recommend that you label everything. Use a permanent marker and make use of old printed sheets of your study material. Write down all the things you have placed in that.

So whether you're heading into your first year at college, or if you're into the later stages of college, you will need space. Remember, when you leave college at the end of the year, your storage facility can be used to preserve your belongings as you head out for summer break.

What You Need to Know For Six Pack Abs

It's amazing to think that your abs are the key to your health, think about it, you use your abs in almost every activity you do, running, lifting, jumping, sitting down, and even pushing a grocery cart. That is why it is so important to workout your abs, it is like the glue that holds everything together. If you have good abs, you can prevent injuries, especially back pain.

So how do you go about working out those abs? What is the best way to make sure that you have a strong core? Well, first you need to understand your abs and the different regions you need to focus on. It is important that you workout each region so that you can achieve the rock hard abs you have always wanted.

Transverse Abdominal

Maybe you have not heard of this muscle, but it is also referred to as the transversalis muscle or the transverses abdominis muscle. The transverse abdominal is a muscle layer of the anterior and lateral abdominal wall. It runs horizontally around your abdomen and helps as a compressor and a stabilizer for your abs.

Rectus Abdominal

This is the six-pack, when you see someone with their shirt off and you see that uniformed muscle formation, you are looking at the Rectus abdominal. This muscle helps you keep good posture and also allows you to perform a crunch.

External Obliques

The external oblique is a very important muscle, it moves diagonally from your ribs down the sides of your waist. It is also the largest and the most shallow of the three flat muscles that make up your lateral anterior abdomen. This muscle helps torso rotation, so if you play golf, tennis, baseball, developing theses muscles would be a great idea.

Internal Obliques

These muscles are very similar to the external obliques, and like the external oblqiues they too run diagonally down from the rib cage to your waist. They lie in between your rib cage and the external obliques.

Find some workouts to target each region of your abdomens, help team it up with a good and healthy diet. It is going to take hard work and a lot of discipline to reveal your abs, but do not quit until they show up.

Steven is passionate about living a healthy life, and helping other people find ways to improve their own health. Hiking, running and sports are a normal part of Steven's life. Rotator Cuff Stretches Can Have Huge Benefits

Rotator cuff stretches should be a fundamental element of rotator cuff exercising. Stretches are a fantastic preventative measure. Not only that they are a superb method for regaining complete range of motion.

I have always failed to understand why stretches are so seldom endorsed in the treatment of rotator cuff stretches tear symptoms. They are, without doubt, some of the finest exercises for the cuff.

Stretches have numerous benefits

Anyone can do them
They can be performed almost anywhere and at anytime
Work for a wide range of rotator cuff conditions
Provide a variety of exercises appropriate for all the rotator cuff muscles
No specialist equipment is required
Benefits of stretching
Why incorporate a rotator cuff stretch into an exercise regime?Simply because stretching often brings a "double whammy" of benefits.

Firstly, stretching encourages an increase in the range of movement that can be achieved.
Secondly, it aids in the building of strength.
This is achieved by helping to lay down tendon fibres in an orderly manner. The tendon fibres become correctly aligned, meaning they stretch further and bond better, thereby increasing strength.
It is, for the reasons above that stretching and strength conditioning, when undertaken together, are so effective at improving muscle performance. If you only undertake one without the other you will be selling yourself short.
Follow the simple rules

Following some simple rules before and during exercise will ensure you perform stretches safely.

Always warm up before hand, even just applying a heat pack or take a hot shower / bath
Stretch only to the point you feel resistance
Hold each stretch steadily for between 20 to 30 seconds
Do not over stretch - this can do much more harm than good
Breathe through stretches
Stop if you feel pain, a little discomfort is to be expected.
Repeat each stretch 4 or 5 times
Have a rest between each stretch
What is the best stretch to use?
"What is the best rotator cuff stretch?" This is a question I am asked all of the time. Unfortunately there is no such thing.
The rotator cuff is made of four separate and distinct muscles. It is for this reason that only one stretch can not impact equally on each muscle.
Three excellent rotator cuff stretches are the wall climb, overhead stretch and the door stretch.

Wall climb - Stand side on to a wall approximately 9 inches away. Reach the near arm up the wall and place the palm of the hand flat against the wall. Now, gradually walk the hand up the wall using the fingers - hold once a stretch is felt.
Overhead stretch - Place your palms on the edge of a work top and gradually bend forwards at the hips to stretch.
Door stretch - stand in front of a door frame, hold an arm out to the side and bend the elbow at a 90-degree angle. Press your palm against the door frame and move forward to stretch.
Two slightly tougher examples:
Stand upright and clasp your hands behind your back. Keep your arms straight and lift your hands slowly upwards.
Stand with your arm out to the side at 90 degrees and your forearm pointing up at 90 degrees. Hold a stick in your hand and let it hang behind your elbow. With the opposite hand, slowly ease the bottom of the stick forward - not too hard mind! Take it real easy with this stretch; a large strain can be exerted.
Which ever rotator cuff stretches you use can only benefit you long term. You really can do this - everyone can! Just make sure you follow the simple rules.
Steve Kaiser has used exercise to treat his own rotator cuff symptoms. Learn how you could do the same at Rotator Cuff Therapy Exercises

Thinking About Buying Some Truck Accessories? - Read This

If you are thinking of buying truck accessories for your truck, there are a few things you need to consider before doing so. Things such as what needs tweaking, what needs more feature, what can I do to make this look like this, where can I go to buy the truck accessories I need, and how many accessories should I buy first. These are common questions for many who are looking to beautify their trucks by accessorizing.

Truck accessories have the potential to provide a truck with many useful features, as well as enhancing the beauty of the truck. There is a never-ending list of accessories available which can be classified into interior and exterior accessories. Both these types have their own function. It's up to you to make the choice as to what function you choose.

In general the most popular truck exterior accessories include bumpers, fender flares, graphics, emblems, grille guards, hood ornaments, hoods, scoops, mirrors, racks, cargo accessories, roll pans, running boards, splash guards, tool boxes, truck steps, tire covers, visors, wings and spoilers.

Interior truck accessories may include, liners, consoles, racks, dash covers, trim, door accessories, floor mats, horns, instrument panel covers, seat covers, seats and steering wheel covers. The effectiveness in investing in interior truck accessories not only make you more comfortable while driving. They also keep the interior clean, and give the truck that "new" look that most people want to hold on to.

If you are planning to buy some accessories, you must remember that the list literally can go on and on, bringing some people to confusion. What you need to have in your truck and for what purpose will definitely help you choose the best and appropriate accessories. When you have decided to add a few modifications to your truck by adding truck accessories, it is highly recommended that you do a little research before choosing.

One thing you must remember is this, some accessories bring beauty, while some accessories bring comfort. Before running out and buying 30 different truck accessories, your best bet is to take a look at the main reason you are buying first. Start out with a couple of truck accessories at a time, then work on buying more once you have stepped back and taken a look at what you have done so far.

Buying truck accessories is another thing. It is much easier to shop online for truck accessories, then to go to 10 different stores searching. Not only does it save you time, it also save you money. Most stores that sell accessories online, offer discounts to those who buy a certain amount, or even for just choosing to shop online. While purchasing accessories online, you have the option to see everything that is offered, at multiple sites if needed, from the comfort of your home or office.

Last but not least, when buying accessories, whether it be online or in store be smart and stay informed. Do not let someone sell you something that you do not want, or have no idea where it goes. Stick to what you want, and try not to over do it. Sometimes more is less, but in the case with trucks, less is sometimes more.

How to Get the Right Jeep Accessories

Have you been buying Jeep accessories that do not serve their intended purpose? Chances are that you have been buying the wrong accessories. You can avoid this mistake by following some simple guidelines which help you get the right accessories.

Getting the right accessories for your Jeep can be tricky and hard but once you get them, they fit on your Jeep just like the original factory accessories. It may take a lot of time and energy to look for a store that sells original parts and accessories, because today many of them sell counterfeits. But once found, the search comes to an end because you will always go to that store for any accessories you might require.

There are several things you should put into consideration in your search for the right accessories for your Jeep. These tips will guide you in your quest for the Jeep accessories.

Study your Jeep

By studying your Jeep, you get to know its model, make and the year of manufacture. You also look at the different accessories that make up your Jeep, where they are found on your Jeep, how they work and their purpose on your Jeep. This helps because when you set out to look for a certain accessory; you can recognize it even without asking a store assistant who might lie if he is only interested in money. So, it is good to familiarize yourself with your Jeep as much as possible.

Consult your manufacturer

It's always good to consult your Jeep manufacturer before you set out to buy the accessories. The manufacturer is usually more informed about the accessories than anyone else. He will advise you on the best accessories that will suit your Jeep, enhance its functionality and its appearance. He will also direct you to the Jeep stores where you can find original accessories. Let your manufacturer be your friend.

Need or Want?

Go for an accessory because you need it but not because you want it. Just because you saw another Jeep with a certain accessory is not a reason enough to make you need it. Chances are, for an accessory that you want, you will not do your research well and you can land on a counterfeit one because you want it in a hurry just to compete with other Jeeps that have it. But for an accessory that your Jeep needs, you will take your time to look for the right one because you do not want it to backfire as soon as you buy it. Make sure you need it, not want it.

Use your mechanic

If your mechanic is available, it's advisable to take him with you. He knows your Jeep too and most mechanics can tell original accessories from counterfeits. They are experts in that field, so it's obvious that they know all the machinery very well. Your mechanic accompanying you will increase the chances of landing the right accessories.

Establish one Jeep store

Once you have known the store that sells the right original Jeep accessories, make it your primary accessory supplier. Establish confidence with the store owners. This will create a good customer image. When this is established, your seller will always give you the right accessories because he does not want to break this relationship.

With these guidelines in mind, be sure to get the best, original accessories for your Jeep.
